Perseid Meteor Shower

If you are into shooting stars, the Perseid meteor shower is this weekend, and the waxing moon means it will be a nice dark backdrop for the traveling fireballs. Forecasters say you could see more than 100 meteors an hour. For best viewing, it has to be clear skies and try to get away from lit areas. Look halfway up to the northeastern sky. Best viewing is from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the nights of Aug. 11-13. Be patient. It will be worth it.

Friday Fest

Last week’s rain postponed Friday Fest to this week. This monthly street festival at Fort Pierce City Marina Square offers food, drinks, arts and crafts, vendors, children’s activities and live music in a beautiful waterfront setting. This week the Ohana Band will provide the entertainment with their blend of blues-y, reggae rock.  This free event runs from 5:30-9 p.m. If the weather looks iffy, call first: 772-466-3880.

Wine & Jazz

Sipping a Florida wine slushee and listening to jazz in the great outdoors sounds like a nice way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. On Aug. 11, The Coffee Beans will perform their smooth jazz at Endless Summer Vineyard & Winery in Fort Pierce. The winery opens at noon for tastings and the music and food are from 3-6 p.m. The summer menu includes beef nachos, fish dip, or chicken salad or caprice salad for $8-$9. Advance food tickets are available online, by phone or at the winery. You can also bring your own picnic meal — just no coolers or beverages. A $2 donation is requested for All Pet Rescue. For more information, call 772-460-0500.  We have some topnotch talent here in the Treasure Coast and I consider The Coffee Beans to be among the best – instrumental wizards!
